I have a 2001 Monte Carlo with 68000 miles.  I just had to have the intake manifold gaskets changed due to an oily substance was found in the radiator.  I also changed drive belt, fuel filter,  transmission fluid and filter and the radiator was flushed and a new thermostat installed.  After driving it 99 miles there was a heavy ticking coming from the top of the engine.  Towed it to the dealer and was told there was a broken push rod.  What could have caused this?

I am a Master tech for Chevrolet and have replaced many of these intake manifold gaskets. In order to replace the gasket you have to loosen all the rocker arms and remove the push rods.

I would have to think that whoever did the repairs either did not tighten the rocker arm properly or did not install a push rod correctly, both could cause a push rod to bend.

You need to ask to look at the broken or bent parts and I would work closely with the people who did the original repair so if they are responsible for the problem they need to fix it for you at no charge.

Let me know how you make out or ask if you have any more questions.
